THE PROS AND CONS OF DEMOLITION

When it comes to doing a DEMOLITION, regardless if it is the demolition of a house, commercial building, a contaminated industrial site, or a stubborn stump that is preventing you from getting the most out of your backyard; you’re going to need to make sure that you not only have the budget but that you also have time to execute the demotion process safely.

The demolition process is not cheap and you should be prepared to pay more than the price that was originally quoted due to the potential of hidden surprises that may be uncovered during the demolition process. You may be doing a home remodel project where the demolition crew uncovers faulty wires or plumbing work that isn’t up to code or during a complete demolition the crew discovers that there is asbestos in the house. These surprises will need to be properly addressed and that will cost you more than the original quoted price. That is why I feel that Time, Money and Surprises are the only cons when it comes to the demolition process.

intro

You may be wondering to yourself as to why I failed to mention SAFETY being another CON. In my book, SAFETY is never a CON and should always be taken seriously. From the workers doing the demolition job to the surrounding trees, shrubs, buildings and neighbors, SAFETY should always be the number one priority.

In fact, SAFETY is the number one PRO when it comes to the demolition process. Let’s say we re-visit the demolition job to remodel the home. During the demolition, it was discovered that the wiring system was not up to code and posed a major fire hazard. While not a pleasant task of hiring an electrician to come in to bring the wiring of the home up to code, you now know that the home is wired properly.

It is safe to say that the pros of doing the demolition job far out way the cons. If you have purchased a property because you love the area and the view, but the house is not the reason for your purchase, you can have a clean slate for the design of your dream home. You can work with the architect to layout your new home the way you wanted and improving how the rooms flow from one to the next as well as upgrading the materials used in the new construction to higher energy efficient materials: Siding, Window, doors, heating and cooling units. Investing in the demolition and using materials that are not only have better energy efficiency, but are also better for the environment will SAVE you more money the longer you live in your new home.

Demolition of an old building that is not in use will also save you money in the long run. For example, if you are a property manager and you own old buildings that are vacant which are deteriorating; it will cost you more money for clean up and damages to other property when the structure crumbles to the ground on its own. Have a professional demolition crew come in to take a look at the building to ensure that it is structurally sound. If they spot any issues of concern they will let you know what the next step would be to ensure everyone’s safety.
There are plenty of advantages when it comes to demolitions, so do a little research and contact a professional demolition crew to help answer your questions. You can always get in touch with commercial demolition contractors in Melbourne to get the expert advice.
